Our Story

What began in 2009 as a small gathering of weavers in a Woodstock warehouse has grown into one of South Africa's most respected textile education centres. Founded by three artisans who trained under master weavers in rural KwaZulu-Natal, our workshops emerged from a simple observation: traditional weaving knowledge was fading as younger generations moved toward urban employment.

We set out to create a space where ancient techniques could find new relevance. Today, over two thousand participants have passed through our programmes, carrying forward skills that might otherwise have been lost to time.

Our instructors maintain direct connections with weaving cooperatives across Southern Africa, ensuring the patterns and methods we teach remain authentic to their cultural origins.

Our Approach to Teaching

We believe in learning by doing. From the first hour, participants work with actual looms, real materials, and authentic techniques. Theory matters, but muscle memory matters more when mastering weave structures.

Classes remain small—never more than eight participants per instructor—allowing for individual attention and pace-appropriate guidance. Whether you finish your first project in two days or need additional sessions, we accommodate the learning journey that suits you.

Beyond the Workshop

Completing a course is just the beginning. Alumni gain access to our monthly weaving circles, where past participants gather to work on personal projects, share techniques, and troubleshoot challenges together.

We also connect advanced practitioners with cooperative partnerships, creating pathways for those who wish to pursue textile craft professionally or contribute to heritage preservation initiatives.
